After a couple of busy hours doing last minute preparation, the Garden Party got underway right on time at 11.00 o'clock on Sunday. Locos and traction engines were fired up and polished, the kitchen started serving large amounts of tea, coffee and food and the stall holders set up their wares.
The car park team did an excellent job of shoehorning around 50 cars onto the field, and we welcomed the first of a steady stream of visitors.
A highlight of the day was the children's sports (sorry, Olympics!) which started with a tug of war between a group of youngsters and Steve's traction engine, (only just won by the youngsters when they added more to their team), followed by sack, egg and spoon and other races, all enjoyed by children and parents.
The weather kept warm and dry, and a fly past by a Lancaster bomber had everyone looking skywards.
Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to a tiring but enjoyable day.
